William Edward Hodges (1846 – 1912)

Born 6 Mar 1846, Bermondsey, Surrey.  Youngest son of Edward HODGES (1805 – 1878 ) and Elizabeth Rachel REYNOLDS (1806 - 1883). Married  Annie Alice WHITTAKER 8 Mar 1885, Parish Church Stoke Newington MDX.  Died 8 Sep 1912, 11 Victoria Rd, Islington, Middlesex.  Cause: 1) Diabetes 2) Gangrene of the ankle.

1846 born at home at 9 Victoria Grove, St John/St Olave, Surrey.

1851 census living at 43 Union Rd, Camberwell, (elder brother Henry now described as a gunmaker).

1861 census living at 3, Williams Terrace, Bermondsey. Occupation: Solicitor’s clerk.

1871 census listed as gunmaker, living at same address.

1881 census listed visiting or living at elder brother's address 'Harry' Henry John Joseph at 5 Ebenezer Bdgs, Islington. Both listed as gunmakers.

1885 married Annie Whittaker, born c.1857 in either Stamford Hill or Hayes Middlesex! (Different censuses give different places). Died after 1915. Daughter of John Whittaker. Marriage address in Stoke Newington.

14/4/1886 Son William Walters Hodges born, at 26 Victoria Road, Islington. Did not follow father's trade but became Army trumpeter as very slight of build.

1891 living 11 Victoria Rd, Islington. 

1901 census - gun maker living at 11 Victoria Road, Islington aged 54. 

1912 Died. Buried at East Finchley cemetery Plot Q10 - grave number 5763 (p) private grave. Burial plot reused in World War II.  No marker remains.
